These were better than expected. I put them into 4 pairs of ski boots. Dad, Mom, and two kids. Size 10, size 8, size 1 and 13 kids. They cut to fit perfectly and I only saw the golden mesh a little bit on the smallest size. Which in fairness is way below the recommendation. We ski in the northeast and it gets cold. They kept us plenty warm at the lower settings. And had lots of power left at the end of the day. They may only have a strip of that golden metal mesh up the middle but it felt like it was the whole insole that was warmed.
The insole is the same thickness from heel to toe, you could likely add a heel cap, or arch if you'd like. I may but so far, I just am using the insoles, and we are all happy with the comfort. No wires underfoot, just soft neoprene. I think. I don't know what it is but it's nice.
