How To Properly Use And Maintain A Heated Horse Rug?

Oct 30, 2025

The correct methods for using and maintaining heated horse rug are as follows:

Equipment Inspection:

Before use, check the power cord and plug for damage or exposed parts, and check the heating element for bulging or leakage. For self-heating heated horse rugs, check for torn fabric and displacement of the heat storage layer.

Proper Installation:

Ensure the heated horse rug is laid flat on the horse's back and fastened with buckles or zippers to prevent slippage or displacement. Also, check that the heating wires are securely connected to prevent loosening or detachment.

Regular Inspection:

During use, periodically check the heating function of the heated horse rug. If any abnormalities are found, stop use immediately and repair the equipment.

Temperature and Usage Time Control:

Winter Warmth Needs: Select a low to medium temperature (25-30℃), and do not use for more than 8 hours at a time to avoid overheating and dehydration.

Post-Exercise Recovery: Select a medium temperature (30-35℃), use for 30-60 minutes at a time, combined with slow walking to accelerate lactic acid metabolism.

Injury Care: Please follow your veterinarian's advice. For example, for arthritis care, please select a low temperature (25-28℃) and use for no more than 40 minutes at a time to prevent local overheating and worsening of inflammation.

Real-time Observation:

The horse must be supervised during use. If the horse becomes agitated, kicks its legs, or tries to chew the blanket, stop the machine immediately and check for overheating or excessive tightness.

Storage:

Fold the blanket neatly and store it in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated place, avoiding direct sunlight and humid environments.

Cleaning and Maintenance: Gently wipe surface stains with a damp cloth dampened with a neutral detergent (such as pet-specific cleaner), then blot dry with a clean cloth. Avoid brushing the heating element area to prevent damage to the internal wiring. After cleaning, hang to air dry in a well-ventilated place.

Precautions:

Do not place heavy blankets on the horse blanket, as this may hinder heat dissipation and cause local overheating.

Electrically heated horse blankets should not be used in the rain to prevent rainwater seepage and short circuits.

Do not use the high-temperature setting on foals (under 6 months old) or horses that are weak or ill (e.g., horses with fever or severe skin diseases), and close monitoring is required at all times.

Do not lend horse blankets to horses that are not the right size, as this may tear the blanket and damage the heating element. Self-heating horse blankets should not be exposed to direct sunlight or high temperatures, as this may damage the heat-retaining material and cause the heating function to malfunction.
